digging the trench

So tell me what you want, what you really, really want this spring. For me, it would be a new, ¾-length trench coat, in the hopes that I can rock the look well as Victoria Beckham (who seems to be firmly entrenched in this item of outerwear every time the paparazzi snap a shot).

Done up in khaki, it’s a classic wardrobe staple that’s never gone out of style–think: Burberry, Sherlock Holmes, spy novels, a rainy day on Wall Street–but tweak the trench slightly with an edgy color or a wild print, and you’ve got something that won’t rain on your fashion parade.

I seem to look to www.target.com each spring for my new update (two years ago, it was a cream and navy floral print; last year, I bought one in yellow and white stripes), but this year’s wave seems to all about navy and white, which is eternally chic in my book.

Milly trench; $575 at www.nordstrom.com.

Reverse that with Jones New York; $199 at www.macys.com.

On the dot: Dennis Basso's water-resistant trench; $71.42 at www.qvc.com.

A coat that won't soak you; $49.95 at www.chicstar.com.

Stripe it rich with Merona for only $49.99; www.target.com.

A solid choice at $37.50; www.oldnavy.com.

Granted, I live in Seattle, where a raincoat is as much a necessity as it is a fashion statement. But this season’s choices are nautical and nice, don’t you think? (PS: Be on the lookout for a contest here next week; big beauty prizes in store!)
