my mousse–don’t touch
When I was little, my parents used to host dinner-club parties; Mom would bring out her Julia Child cookbooks and go all gourmet. Kids were not invited to these events, so I would be fed before dinner and was known to spy on the party guests from a loft balcony above the living room.
My most vivid memory of these evenings was a huge glass punchbowl of freshly-whipped chocolate mousse (sorry—mousse de chocolate, as Julia would say), waiting in the fridge to be served during dessert. Mom taped a note on it, warning us not to touch. There were no words on this note. Mom is an artist: She simply drew a picture of skull and crossbones. We got the point.
She needn’t have worried, though, as I don’t much like chocolate mousse…not nearly as much as I like the mousse I found recently in the drugstore by L’Oreal, anyway. It’s the latest foundation in my makeup arsenal, and it’s not just the $12 price point that’s got me all hot and bothered. If you read this blog regularly, you know I’m a texture hound when it comes to makeup: I love foundations that give actual coverage, but a) feel light as air and b) go on like a cloud, without much sponging and blending. L’Oreal Paris Magic Smooth Souffle Makeup (say that three times fast) hits all the bases. It covers beautifully, but still has a natural look that doesn’t scream, “I’m wearing foundation, folks!” and has a light-as-air sensation when it hits your skin. I like to apply it with a big, fluffy foundation brush; it’s a little clunky to dab into the pot, but I wipe off excess against the sides and that seems to do the trick.
I like it enough to put a skull and crossbones tag on it. Try it and tell me what you think.
