super bowls

A moment of self-deprecation here: I’m one of those football fans who need to have a vested interest in a team to actually enjoy the game. Which is why I was hoping and praying that my Seahawks would pull off some sort of miracle against the Chicago Bears two weeks ago. Except, I was flying TO Chicago at the exact moment they were playing…and, sadly, my plane made one of the few touchdowns from Seattle that day. Things being as they were, I turned all attention to my former home, NY…and that didn’t work out so well, either.

Suffice it to say I will be more focused on the food this year than on the TV screen. To wit, I’ve been googling some awfully cute and kitschy tabletop items that would only pass muster on the big game day. (Great, I might add, for serving very Wisconsin-y, cheesy hors d’oeuvres.) They seem like a better deal than those equally cheesy plastic trays, emblazoned with the name of your favorite team. Those are a) ugly;  b) cost $10; and c) end up in a sad garage sale afterwards.

Totally a fan of this chips-n-dip combo; $39.99 at amazon.com

...as well as this hot ticket for $26.99 at Target.

Or this really super, $19.99 bowl that's also on Target.

Fill it with football chocolates: 5 pounds for $39.50 at candywarehouse.com

...or score a more manageable 2 pounds for $6.90 at blaircandy.com.

And toast your team with beer tumblers from amazon.com; 24 glasses (they're 23 ounches each!) for $54.49.

If you, like me, are invited elsewhere for Superbowl Sunday this year, then perhaps it’s time to place your order for a hostess gift or two. (Apologies in advance to my non-kitschy friend, Maureen.)

I made your blog! I feel like you have done all my work for me. I was planning on a candy bar for the kids (and I am sure an adult or two will indulge) and those football chocolates would be great!
