the vase case

A family member is getting married soon and I’ve been asked to hunt for reasonably-priced vases that can be shipped to a remote island in Greece. Fortunately, I’m not in charge of the packing and mailing task, but I AM all over the hunt for the floral recepticles; and what I’m digging up is worth sharing…even with those who cannot differentiate between spanakopita and avgolemono.  (Okay, it’s spinach pie and lemon soup.)

It was decided that tall, towering glass vessels might be a bad choice, given the windy nature of the beach on which these nuptials are to take place. But sturdy, square vases—matching miniatures of which can be purchased to protect votive candles from said wind—are just the ticket. I’ve used them myself when I planned a Fiesta-style birthday party for my mother (who, conveniently, was born on Cinco de Mayo). And they’ve come in handy ever since…even to neighbors, who occasionally borrow a few for special occasions.  Best part, you can buy them for a song at wholesale websites, including  www.wholesaleflowersandsupplies.com and www.candles4less.com.

Mom's birthday vases didn't put the squeeze on my budget.

Filled with white blooms: just beachy!

Pottery Barn's cube vases: $15 for a single 5.5 x 7 square.

...but only $3.55 at wholesaleflowersandsupplies.

If my family member buys these glass cubes at a retail store, the wedding-guest list is going to shrink substantially. But if they go the discount route, I know I’m going to hear a few cheers of “Opa!”
